CONSTRUCTION UPDATE

The construction contractor is planning to commence work on the access to the new admin building wing from the existing building on Tuesday 24th April. This will entail closing off the main staircase until the work is complete. During this time, access to the admin building will either be via lift on the ground floor or the concourse on the first floor. People must either use the lift or the staircase on the east side of the building, to get to the second, third and fourth floors.

THANK YOU

The last week show-cased the interesting work staff and students are doing in the undergraduate program!

Debbie and Heather together with their students pulled off a fun filled special Olympics with students from Forest Town School. Well done Colleagues and Students!

Gao and PGCE Drama students put up a thought provoking and moving show in the Space Frame. Excellent reviews from staff who attended and a strong recommendation to go 'BIG' and repeat the show in the Linder! Thank you Gao and PGCE students.

Foundation Phase students went back to childhood with a variety of activities on the concourse. Thank you Viv and Loraine and students.

Thanks to Mark Sandham, Alison Chisholm and the library staff for the offer of assistance to all staff. Mark this is greatly appreciated and valued!

Thanks to Lee and Ruth for finalising the arrangements for TE much appreciated!

PHDS AT PLAY

The long awaited social event for the PhD students in the School finally came last Friday. The PhD committee through its student representatives organised the social event with a focus on socialising through Soccer, Volley ball (indoors), and Squash. It took them a while to get students to commit to this idea, but once committed there was nothing stopping them. This social get together was the first of its kind and I wish to thank Washington Dudu and Gift Luxomo for this innovative idea. Thanks also to Matsie and Devi who supported the students in developing this initiative- may the games continue!

VISION STATEMENT

After a long process of consultation and amendments the School Exec has approved the vision statement for the School.  Thanks to all who contributed so actively to this process and the challenge now is to realise the vision on the part of all divisions and centres by way of practicable and achievable goals.

Final Vision statement

The Wits School of Education aims to be a leader, regionally and internationally, in the development of best educational theory and practice through high-quality teaching and research. We aim to develop accomplished teachers and educational leaders, to foster well-informed public debate,  to promote intellectual and professional innovation, and to engage constructively with all sectors of the educational community.

Enjoy Teaching Experience!
